Currency Exchange Breakdown
Review the conversion results. Here are the core metrics calculated for your transaction:
Exchange Rate
The current conversion rate applied to your transaction, indicating how much of the target currency you get per unit of the source currency.
Converted Amount
The total value of your money in the target currency, computed using the live or fallback rate.
Inverse Rate
The rate to convert back from the target currency to the source currency (calculated as 1 divided by the primary rate).
How is it calculated?
Value_{Target} = Value_{Source} \times Rate_{Source \to Target}The converted value is calculated by multiplying the source currency amount by the exchange rate of the target currency relative to the source currency.

Ultimate Guide to Currency Conversions and Exchange Rates
How Currency Conversions Work in the Global Market
Currencies are traded globally 24 hours a day, 5 days a week across major financial hubs. The relative value of one currency against another is known as the exchange rate. This rate fluctuates constantly based on factors like interest rates, inflation, economic health, geopolitical events, and market sentiment.
When you see an exchange rate (for example, USD/INR = 83.50), it means you need 83.50 Indian Rupees to purchase exactly 1 United States Dollar. In the forex market, this is known as the mid-market rate or spot rate, representing the real, un-marked-up price at which banks exchange money.
Why Bank and Transfer Service Exchange Rates Differ
If you try to buy currency from a bank or transfer money abroad using a remittance service, you'll rarely get the mid-market exchange rate. Instead, banks and exchange brokers add a hidden markup—usually between 1% and 5%—to the exchange rate to make a profit.
On top of the markup, they may also charge fixed transaction fees or receiving fees. Our Currency Converter calculates the real-time, mid-market rate. This helps you figure out the exact benchmark rate so you can evaluate if your bank or transfer provider is giving you a fair deal.
Understanding Base Currency and Target Currency
In any currency conversion, there is a Base Currency (the one you are selling or starting with) and a Quote or Target Currency (the one you are buying or converting into).
For example, if you are converting USD to EUR, USD is the base currency and EUR is the target currency. The conversion is direct: Converted Amount = Amount * Rate. If you want to convert back, you use the inverse rate: Inverse Rate = 1 / Rate. Our tool shows both the direct converted amount and the inverse rate breakdown for maximum transparency.
